www.redpawfeed.com hired Jeff to take photos of 3-time Iditarod champion Lance Mackey and a number of Lance’s dogs for a special product packaging and advertisement campaign called “Dog’s First”. Jeff’s experience with sled dogs while photographing the Iditarod sled dog race and his portrait experience made him a natural choice for this assignment. Jeff worked closely with Red Paw’s advertising agency prior to the shoot in order to get the right “look” for both the dogs and for Lance. The idea was to show Lance in a haggard look as if he was in the middle of the race (hence the makeup applied in some of the production photos shown here) and have the dogs look their absolute best. These sled dogs are not noted for “staying still” so as some of these production shots show, Jeff hired a number of dog wranglers to help control the dogs. The photo shoot took place outside of
Fairbanks, Alaska as the photo shoot progressed, images were sent regularly to the art director in
Milwaukee.
