Saturday March 9, 2013 evening in Kaltag— I spent just a few hours in Shageluk shooting before moving on to Kaltag. Wonderful people there as always. It was a 3 mile drive to the airport for Erin and I to catch our ride. We took out 10 dropped dogs in the back of the pickup that took us to the airport. I rode in the back with the dogs, two vets and a volunteer from Shageluk and shot a few things as we went. Watched and photographed the vets loading pilot Jerry Wortley’s plane. Then Mike Swalling picked Erin and I up in his Cessna 206 for the hour ride to Kaltag. We flew over the Eagle Island checkpoint and over teams on the Yukon and was able to photograph a few of them. Bummer not having a window that opened, but was still a great ride and experience. Checkout some of the images at www.iditarod.com/photo Am staying at the school in Kaltag tonight and most likely Unalakleet tomorrow.
