Report from Previous Colony Glacier Landscape Photo Workshop

I took a Colony Glacier photo trek with Jeff Schultz photography. The class started out with one evening class at his studio. Perfect intro..He told us what to expect, what to bring, how to dress for the weather and and most importantly worked with us with our own cameras. The group was a good mix – some had more experience than others…. but Jeff did a great job of working with all of us right where we were at. Saturday morning – bright and early – great weather – we took off in helicopters (sans doors!! – not to worry – very well strapped in) we flew over glaciers, forests and hillsides.. and landed at a picture perfect spot at Lake George. There Jeff taught us how to use our camera’s to capture the most incredible pictures I have ever taken. He showed us how to look for composition and how to use our camera settings and spent time with each of us so that we could do it on our own the next time. I learned so much that day. He walked around and offered personal instruction, and some group instruction. I would recommend this to any range of photographer. The landscape was spectacular of course – but capturing it with my own camera was something else. This was by far one of the best things I have done in Alaska… and I live here!

This day was packed with excitement and adventure as we flew in a helicopter,taking pictures the whole way to Colony Glacier. Our class room was the magnificent Alaskan out doors with one of the best Alaskan photographers ever, Jeff Schultz sharing his decades worth of hard earned photographic knowledge with each ever one of the small group of 6 participants. My understanding of composition, filters, timed exposures, ND filters and so much more escalated more in 24 hrs than it has in many year of trial and error. Highly recommend!! Those thinking about going should be in fairly good shape to hike along a glacial lake with rock and sandy terrane.

This is the 1st photo tour I have ever taken… and I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed it… I loved being outside and learning to take better pictures. Jeff took the time to make sure I understood what was being taught. Unbelievable experience!! :~)

Jeff is a very practical instructor and his friendly personality made me comfortable during the workshop and he provided instant and practical instruction and critiques to apply to the next photo. I found the workshop just perfect for my level of experience as serious amateur photographer. The excellent location topped it all !!

I had an excellent experience on this photography workshop with Jeff Schultz leading the trip. The location was outstanding. The helicopter trip to the location was exciting as we could see the entire area from the air including the Knik Glacier and the Colony glaciers and its surrounding areas. It was truly a spectacular view. Jeff provided practical instruction and demonstration of photography techniques to improve my photography. He also provided honest critiques and hints to apply instantly to my next photo. I had a great experience on this photography trip.

This all day photo workshop lead by world class professional photographer Jeff Schultz began with a helicopter flight to Colony Glacier northeast of Anchorage, Alaska. The photo opportunities were awe inspiring, the instruction second to none and the memories brought home will never be forgotten.

2 hours of classroom evening instruction followed by a day trip via helicopter to Colony Glacier and lake. Stunning scenery, great personalized photo tips, safe beautiful flight. We couldn’t have asked for more. Jeff is an artist in photography and had suggestions for composition and effects that brought everyone’s pictures to a whole new level
