This image of a raft of sea otters was made during my June Explorer photo tour. Just the cutest things these creatures are. It seems amazing, but these critters can weigh up to 100 pounds for a male. The pup is typically weaned after 3-6 months and weighs about 30 pounds then and appears to be the same size as mom. In the 1700’s when Russia found the sea otters in Alaska the otters became nearly extinct here by the 1900’s. Now they are not only stabilized, they are continuing to increase. This image was shot on a Canon 1DX Mark II with a 100-400mm F/4.5-5.6 II L lens at 400mm and 1/1600th second at f/5.6 at ISO 500 handheld from a boat.
