One of my favorite locations to photograph and a place I bring many of my photo tours is the Knik Glacier in the Matanuska Valley near Palmer, Alaska. The area is just a one hour drive north of Anchorage and only accessible via air, with a helicopter as the best transportation option.

While they have many helicopter tours to choose from, my friends Bridget and Chris, owners at Outbound Helicopters, now offer to the general public a tour that I designed for my own photo tours. It’s called the “Jeff Schultz Photo Journey (Private)”. It’s the one I highly recommend for the serious photographer, as it allows 2-4 people (it’s available for one person as well, but at the cost of 2 people) to do a trip with one hour flight time and 45 minutes on the ground in each of the 3 VERY DIFFERENT locations.

This tour also offers the doors to be off the helicopter to allow you unobstructed views for unmatched aerial photos.
This Tour is available year-round, and as you can see from the photos, it’s a spectacular location no matter the weather or the season. Your pilot will explain the opportunities available from the current conditions on the day. You can always modify this custom photo tour in the air if you see something you like. And you can always add extra time (at an extra cost) without an issue.
