What brought you to live in Alaska:
I first came to Alaska because I was born and raised in Juneau. My father moved up here and was a seeking adventurer and he was an optometrist and had an opportunity to come up. He met my mother up here. They were in their early twenties and I was born at the old St Anne’s Hospital, downtown Juneau, which is now not there anymore 55 years ago. So, I’m a local.
How has Alaska captured your heart?
Alaska’s captured my heart because of a number of different things. It’s the wide open spaces, the beauty, the adventure. If you’re any kind of an outdoors person, there’s so many opportunities and so many things to do. And I think that’s probably the main reasons, some of the main reasons.
Describe just one of your favorite “Best Days” or “Most memorable experiences” in Alaska.
My most memorable experience being an Alaskan, I think is being able to have my kids beyond the boat with me, grow up on the boat, and become crewman for me over the years. They started out as little kids, crawling all over the boat and picking up every little sea creature, and having little buckets and tanks that they threw everything in and making sure everything got all the stuff that we didn’t keep, got back in the water and alive and swam away. And I think that’s probably some of my most memorable experiences is being able to have my kids grow up on the boat here with me.
What in Life do you know for sure?
What I know for sure in life is that the most important, I think the most important thing is your family and friends. You can have all kinds of other things in life, but if you get right down to it, the most important things in life are your family and friends.
