What is your Why?.. Why are you here today and involved in Iditarod?:

I WAS KIND OF BORN INTO DOG MUSHING. MY GRANDFATHER WAS A DOG MUSHER IN FAIRBANKS IN THE — UMPTEEN BAZILLION YEARS AGO. AND THEN MY FAMILY GOT INVOLVED IN THE RACE WITH MY DAD WHEN HE STARTED RUNNING WITH THE IDITAROD AIRFORCE. AND THEN THE FAMILY GOT INTO THE MUSHING SIDE OF IT. AND DAD’S RUN TWICE SO… AND MY LITTLE SISTER’S RUN ONCE. AND BETWEEN THE SIBLINGS, THEY’VE RUN JUNIOR IDITAROD TEN TIMES. SO I KIND OF GOT ROPED INTO IDITAROD AIRFORCE WHEN THE EXEMPTION CAME ALONG AND THEY WERE KIND OF LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WITH A LITTLE MORE COMPUTER KNOWLEDGE TO HELP MAKE THE PROCESS EASIER FOR THE IDITAROD AIRFORCE.

Tell me about your most rewarding experience on Iditarod?:

MY MOST REWARDING EXPERIENCE – AND I DON’T REMEMBER THE YEAR – WAS WHEN NANCY YOSHIDA LOST A DOG ALONG THE TRAIL. AND I WAS WORKING IN THE ANCHORAGE LOGISTICS OFFICE. AND WE HELPED FACILITATE GETTING NOT ONLY HER, BUT NIGEL, BACK SAFELY. AND IT WAS AWESOME TO REUNITE THE TWO OF THEM AND BE ABLE TO HELP FACILITATE THAT.

What do you know for sure?

IT’S JUST A DOG RACE AND WE CAN KEEP GOING. IT’S JUST A DOG RACE. IT’S A GREAT DOG RACE, BUT LIFE WILL MOVE ON.
